  1. Use Tags Wisely – Whether it’s Twitter, LinkedIn, or Facebook, you want to make sure you’re using tagging effectively. There’s a fine line between not having enough and having too many, so use them but use them wisely.
  2. Ride the Wave – When you notice something trending on Twitter or elsewhere in the social media world, try to put your own spin on it so that you can benefit from the trend that’s already happening. This is easy to do and can really give you great results if you do it correctly.
  3. Research Popular Topics – Another good thing to do to make your social media posts more effective is to research what’s been popular on other websites – in your niche or not. Just make sure you don’t steal someone’s content! Google Trends is a great place to start to look for popular topics.
  4. Deep Not Shallow – Rather than just doing a little bit on all the different social media networks, choose a handful and concentrate on those. For most, this will be Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
  5. Giveaways – If you have something of value to give away, you can use a service like PunchTab to give away the item while increasing your number of likes and followers at the same time. Just make sure it’s something that’s worth giving away and that you give it enough time to work. Two weeks is usually recommended.
  6. Be Real – Instead of using cut and pasted text from existing marketing materials, make sure you come up with content that will really reach people and make them excited about your brand.
  7. Use Employees – You’ll want to have clear guidelines in place, of course, but get your employees in on the act on Facebook, Twitter and other social networks to get your brand more exposure.
