The cynical view is that they will be looking to charge companies for advertising down the road, but in the short term this means that getting your company listed on Google Maps and getting your website integrated into the Google search experience is a relatively quick process (since Google is providing pretty good support for it nowadays, unlike a few years ago).

The Google Business listings are extremely important for several reasons. Firstly, it is huge trust signal with Google. Since they send a postcard to your business address for verification, they know that you are an actual business, this goes a long way in their algorithm and they are more likely to rank you higher.

Secondly, you get a Google+ page with all your information, this gets you a nice little backlink and also another outlet for customers to find you. A Google+ business page can’t be gotten unless you verify your company, so this is another perk.

Lastly, but certainly not least, is the fact that you will now be seen on the Google Maps. You may have seen these Maps listing if you’ve done any number of searches, and they really do attract a lot of usage and provide a ton of engagement for your website. You can’t get in this listing if you don’t have a verified business!

Tip #3 – Get a Competent SEO Company

This can be the trick part, but you will really need a competent and honest SEO company to run your campaigns for you. Google rarely rewards brand new sites with any top rankings, and even if you’ve been around for a while, you may still need to get aggressive and tactical with your SEO efforts to see real results.
