There are many ways to check bad sectors on the hard disk. One of them is using \u201cwindows Surface Scanner\u201d software. Windows Surface Scanner is free tool and support for al type of Hard Disk ATA, SCSI, USB, etc. \u201cWindows Surface Scanner\u201d support for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 operating system.<\/p>

This software will read each sector of a physical drive that is currently mounted on an XP, Vista, or Windows 7 operating system.\u00a0 Each sector is examined for a read error. If a read error occurs the error counter will increment.<\/p>

How to use Windows Surface Scanner to check disk for bad sectors? <\/strong><\/p>

Download Windows Surface Scanner from here<\/strong> and install it.<\/li>
After installation, run the program and click I Agree. In windows vista and windows 7 you must run this software as Administrator.<\/li>
Press the ‘Mount’ button. That will query your system for all physical Drives currently mounted.

Once found a list will be presented to you with check boxes next to each drive.\u00a0 You may only choose on drive at a time to scan.<\/li>
Use the check boxes to the left of the drive to indicate which drive you wish to have the software scan (only one drive may be scanned at a time).<\/li>
Press the ‘Scan’ button to start the surface scan of the currently selected drive.<\/li> <\/ul>
Note:<\/strong> Windows Surface Scanner can only be used to check bad sectors and can not be used to fix bad sectors on the hard disk.<\/p>
