Yahoo! Received Thousands Data Requests from the U.S. Agencies

 

The giant Internet service provider Yahoo! said, received more than 13,000 requests from law enforcement agency of the United States (U.S.) for information in six months until May 31, 2013.

Letter to subscribers titled “our commitment to user privacy” that aired in the Tumbler page on Monday and signed by Yahoo CEO! Marissa Mayer and the power of the company law, Ron Bell.

Yahoo!, along with Facebook, Microsoft and Apple, under the supervision of tightened after appearing leakage of infiltration program by the US Government, which recognized only targeted foreign terror suspects and managed to thwart several attempts to assault.

In the period December 01, 2012 until May 31, 2013, Yahoo! announced, “we received between 12,000 to 13,000, including requests for criminal cases, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) and another request.” According to the letter, most requests relating to cases of fraud, murder, kidnapping and other criminal investigations.

“Like all other companies, Yahoo! may not be breaking the law by opening the requests for FISA now because that the numbers are confidential; However we urge the federal Government to reconsider its stance over this issue. ”

Big companies internet service providers facing a public reaction since a contractor Edward Snowden divulge PRISM, a program that asks nine high-tech company submit user data to the National Security Agency (NSA). However the company is disputed the claim that the NSA could access directly on their servers. U.S. authorities say the program is legal and restricted.

Yahoo! said in the next few months will be issued a “report on the transparency of law enforcement the first global, which will include the report in the first semester. We will be updating this report with the latest statistics twice a year. ”
