Tips n tricks to Encrypt or Decrypt file or folder in the Windows XP and Windows Vista quickly.
One of excess of NTFS file system compared to FAT file system is the security. NTFS file system give better security level. The security is encrypt the file or folder where the data kept.
To Encrypt the data or folder can do the following steps:
- Open Windows Explorer.
- Right-click the file or folder that you want to encrypt, and then click Properties.
- On the General tab, click Advanced.
- Select the Encrypt contents to secure data check box.
Using a few tricks you can to add menu Encrypt in context menu. So that, when You want encrypt the data by right click of file or folder then click Encrypt.
Following this steps to show Encrypt menu in the conteks menu :
- Open the registry editor
- Navigate to sub key : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | Software | Microsoft | Windows | CurentVersion | Explorer | Advanced
- create a new DWORD value by clicking right of mouse in the right pane of windows then select new DWORD value
New – DWORD (32 bit) value (for windows vista)
New – DWORD value (for windows XP)
- give the name the DWORD value by the name EncryptionContextMenu
- double click the EncryptionContextMenu and change the data value to 1.
- click OK and close Registry Editor.
Note : to Encrypt or Decrypt the file or folder, right click and select Encrypt or Decrypt
