About File Indexing Service in the Windows XP

 

File Indexing Service extraction information from files, document and other on harddisk and make a “searchable keyword index”. this process very weigh against system. Windows XP with built-in search function can conduct assortedly of searching without entangling Indexing Service. But rather longer. Operating System have to open every file when asked to help to look for what is user wish.

Mostly people do not require this feature. Usually require thi feature is a big company environment where thousands of document put down at least one server. However if only a kind of system builder, which most the clients is middle and small business, and if all clients do not require the feature will better disable this service.

How to Disable it :

  • Open windows Windows Explorer (My Computer)
  • Right Click on drive C:
  • Select Properties
  • Uncheck “Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching.”
  • Click Apply button, will appears message : apply changes to “C: subfolders and files” then Click Ok.
  • IF appear error windows like “Access is denied”, Click the Ignore All button.
