You know you can plug headphones into your iPhone, of course, but did you know that there are many other things that can easily interact with your smartphone by using the audio jack? We’re going to go over some of the crazier things you can connect to your mobile to make it even more useful and fun. The extra usefulness comes at a price, of course, but for many the ability to make their smartphone better is worth the cost.

Here’s a look at some of the weird and wonderful things you can plug into your iPhone’s audio jack to make it better. Most of these items are available online and come with apps that interfaces with the device so you can see results on your iPhone.

BBQ thermometer – Using infrared technology, this is a quick and easy way to gauge the correct temperature of your barbecue. As you might or might not know, this is a good way to become the ultimate outdoor cooker and amaze your friends and family.
Laser Pointer – While this technology has been around a while – much to the distraction of cats everywhere – you can now get one that plugs into the audio jack on your iPhone. Imagine the fun you can have!
Geiger counter – Knowing if there’s dangerous radiation around is very useful information to have at your fingertips. If you don’t want to lug around a large model, you can get a detector that plugs into your iPhone.
Thermometer – There’s even a smart thermometer than you can plug into your iPhone’s audio jack. It looks like a normal thermometer, but with the power of your smartphone, it becomes even more useful.
